Turning a prompt into a fic
A prompt is a situation, not a story. The story is what the situation forces your characters to reveal. Before you write, answer three questions:
- What does each character want in this scene? If the answer is the same thing, add a reason they can't both have it.
- What are they hiding? The twist line in each prompt usually points at this.
- What's different at the end? A confession, a decision, a door closed. Even fluff needs a small change.
Enemies to lovers prompts that work
Enemies to lovers is one of AO3's most-used tags because it front-loads conflict. The prompts in that mode all give the enmity a concrete cause — a family feud, a missed assassination, a rivalry with a scoreboard — because hostility without a reason reads as bickering. The arc lands when the reason is resolved or re-understood, not when the characters simply stop arguing.
Need more raw material? The AU generator handles settings, and the trope glossary explains each tag.

Questions writers ask
How does the fanfic prompt generator work?
It combines a situation, a setting, a twist and a tone from hand-written lists, then drops your characters into the A and B slots. There are thousands of combinations, and it runs instantly in your browser.
What is the daily prompt?
Everyone who visits on the same day (UTC) sees the same daily prompt, so a Discord server or writing group can all write to it together. It changes at midnight UTC.
Can I use these prompts for a fic exchange or challenge?
Yes. Prompts are free to use for exchanges, prompt memes, Tumblr asks or a personal 30-day challenge. No credit needed.
How do I come up with fanfic ideas?
Start from a gap: a scene canon skipped, a "what if" at a turning point, or a trope you love applied to a pair who never got it. Then add a constraint (a deadline, a secret, a single location). The generator works the same way: situation, setting and a twist that adds pressure.
What are OTP prompts?
OTP ("one true pairing") prompts are short, usually fluffy situations for an established or almost-couple — the kind shared on Tumblr prompt lists. Switch to OTP mode for those.
Can it generate a fanfic plot, not just a prompt?
Each prompt is a plot seed. Press Write next to any prompt and the AI fanfic generator turns it into a full scene you can continue part by part.
Where can I find more fanfic ideas?
Browse the prompt lists (OTP, angst, fluff, dialogue and enemies to lovers), the trope glossary for structures, the AU generator for alternate universes, or ask the AI fanfic generator to draft an opening from any prompt you like.
Is this a fanfic creator or just a prompt list?
Both. The generator gives you the idea instantly in your browser; press Write next to any prompt and the AI fanfic generator turns it into a complete scene you can keep extending.
